My wife and I live have a vacation home in Ocean Beach, that has for all practical purposes become our primary home throughout the year.Whether we are taking a stroll, bike riding.or "hitting the town" for some late night partying ,I have NEVER felt so safe and secure with Cheif ED Paradiso, and Seargant George...and their seasonal staff protecting "my island".
From the complaintant's background (it seems many people had seen this unfolding),this seams like a well orchestrated media blitz to extort money by a DRUNK PUNK.I am Proud to have the O/B Police protecting OUR beach community anytime!!!

Feraca, you must be a local Fire Islander. You're fabulously uninformed. You and your wife better be prepared to be "proud" of your local lawmen after they're convicted of assault, obstruction of justice and other crimes. Paradiso and Hesse ought to be resting easier with you as their PR man.

Dear Feraca-

I find it disarmingly irreprehensible that you take pride in a police system so clearly abusing its power and hurting your fellow man. More so, your fellow american citizens who are supporting your local businesses and tourism industry. Mind you, "your" island thrives on tourism.

I cannot imagine the arrogance or lack of morality one would need to possess in order to think you need that kind of protection.

Safety from our law officials is a right, which i agree is comforting and necessary. However, any decent human being would be outraged knowing that the expense of your comfort on "your" island is the abuse and disregard for others' liberties.

I for one couldnt sleep at night.

Your focus on this notion of the "other," brings to mind too many of our historys shamefull days, your island does not have those rights, not in our america.

I have been harrassed by the police in Ocean Beach - the thing to realize is that these are not "real" police officers. These are often wannabes that take these positions as a summer job and like to feel important since they do not have any power in their normal lives. Because Ocean Beach is not a part of Suffolk County, they can create their own little "kingdom" and do not have to employ actual trained police officers, but rather have security people that they CALL police officers. I threw a Diet Coke can in the garbage once and I had one of these "cops" pull me over to the garbage and ask me to find what I had just thrown out - as if it had been a beer. I was a 25 year old woman at the time - and his little act to "be tough" is something I have seen frequently. I was not surprised when this happened and I hope this couple takes that town for all they've got. And by the way - I refused to stick my hand in that garbage can and they gave up. JACKASSES!
